Take a look at this beautiful irrigation plan! We will be working to install irrigation in May with the help of a local landscape contractor and landscape architect. We have state of the art equipment donated by Hunter Industries. If you have expertise in irrigation, we can really use your help to complete the next phase of our DATA School Garden. If you're available, please contact CeCe Johnson in the DATA Library. We are planning a garden serve day on May 19.
Mr. Strong and our awesome DATA woodshop students have been hard at work creating our beautiful garden pergola. It's gone from a patch of dirt to a real, usable structure. We're so proud of the great work you're doing! Above students lay the foundation for the pergola. Next they add the shade structure. Getting close to being done! The shade structure is done, benches have been created, and the back piece has been added. It will be ready for a class to use soon!
Mr. Strong and the wood shop classes have begun work on our pergola. This week and last week, they delivered supplies and began digging holes and creating boxes for the foundation. Next step is to pour cement and set the support posts. What an amazing project done by our own DATA students. THANK YOU Mr. Strong and wood shop students!!!! You are helping make our school an even better place! Thank you so much to BC Tree Service for donating time and equipment to get our garden area cleared and leveled. Your efforts are much appreciated! Next steps...pergola construction, irrigation, and installation of butterfly and native plant garden. Pergola Design CompetitionCongratulations to our winner, Alexis F.! Check out her beautiful design below.
The design contest has begun. Click here for details on how you can enter.
Thank you to the Palma family for their donation of tools and a wheelbarrow. Your donation is much appreciated!
The DATA School Garden has received a grant for a pergola in the garden's learning center. We will be holding a design contest after winter break, and we will build the winning design. We hope to start building in the spring and will need some volunteer expertise in the area of construction. If you'd be willing to donate your time and skills, we'd looooooove to have your help. We are also still in need of help with our irrigation installation, which will be taking place after winter break. Please contact CeCe Johnson (805) 641-5165 ext. 2057, if you are available to help with either project. We spent Saturday morning prepping the area where our butterfly and native plant garden will be going. We got lots of weeds pulled and turned some soil. Next step is to grade the soil and get our irrigation all set. If you have hardscape or irrigation skills and want to help, let us know. We'd love your help.
Follow our garden project through each phase. Check out our Wish List for ways you can help us grow.
Finally! We're online to move our garden from this... to this! Be a part of our transformation and help our DATA Garden grow from beast to beauty!
We're prepping for installation of our butterfly & native plant garden, outdoor classroom, and compost & vermiculture area. (See our beautiful landscape plan above.) If you're interested in helping out with this amazing school project, we'd love your assistance. It will give our students a great place for hands-on learning and provide a multitude of opportunities for them to experience the natural world in action. If you have equipment or skills you'd be willing to donate/loan to help us grade, trench, and irrigate, please contact CeCe Johnson in the DATA Library. |
